The Scoop on Botox
With the addition of our latest innovative treatment The Beyond Botox Facial, we know some of you are naturally curious. What is Botox?
You probably know it involves needles and bacteria, but there's much more going on. Botulinum toxin (commercially called Botox) is a neurotoxin protein produced by bacteria.
Although the protein is extremely toxic, minute doses have been used medically since the 1950's. Botox blocks the release of acetylcholine, resulting in the affected muscle being unable to contract for 4 to 6 months.
Cosmetic use was originally discovered in Vancouver when doctors treating eye muscle disorders noticed their patients' frown lines relaxed.
Like many medical esthetic procedures, it's not for everyone. One of the best alternatives is an intensive treatment, like our new Beyond Botox Facial.
